Know Your Path
Create a personal mission statement for your life.
The first step in taking control of your life is that you have to decide which direction you want to go in. Developing your personal mission statement will help you to stay focused on the values that are most important to you and allow you to focus your attention on your daily decisions being driven in the way you want to impact the world. Think about your mission statement as the legacy you want to leave with the people in your life. What do you want to be known for?
Choose which behaviours/attitudes you will and will not accept from others.
"Don't let negative and toxic people rent space in your head. Raise the rent and kick them out." - Robert Tew
You are worthy of the life you want to be living! If you know what you want in life, when you decide to do the hard work to improve your life, you choose which behaviours you will accept from yourself. The next step in your journey is to set that standard for the people you surround yourself with. If you have decided that a particular behaviour or attitude is toxic and not acceptable for you, choose to not accept it from others.
Claim Your Space/Time
Surround yourself with people who encourage, empower, and positively challenge you to achieve the life you want for yourself.
"Be wary of the company you keep for they are a reflection of who you are, or who you want to be." - Kenneth G. Ortiz
Who you spend time with has a direct impact on the kind of person you become. Once you have established your personal mission statement and decided the behaviours/attitude you will and will not accept from others around you, you must take active initiative to spend your time with people who get you closer to the life you chose for yourself. This two way street with benefit not only you, but those who have also chosen to have you in their lives!
In your work and home space, create an environment that inspires, excites, motivates, encourages and brings you joy.
These spaces are where you spend most of your day and you want to make it a place you feel the most you! This is your chance to be authentically you and create a space that makes you feel comfortable, passionate, motivated and inspired!
Take a break when you need to.
Life is busy. It is often a whirlwind of tasks, responsibilities and to-do lists. Taking a break doesn’t necessarily mean you can leave work, stop parenting, or drop your responsibilities. It does means you are allowed to give yourself a mental break from time to time from striving for perfection and unrealistic, unattainable expectations that you have placed on yourself. It means letting go of the expectations of others, whether perceived or real. Taking a break sometimes does mean that we need to physically take a break... when circumstances will allow. It is crucial that you take time for yourself when you can. While to-do lists keep the world moving, you need to make sure you are making time to decompress, rest, reinvigorate and take the weight of the world off your shoulders, even if it is just for the present moment in time. Carving out time in your day will allow you the mental wellness to be able to face anything that the day may throw at you.
Plan your routine, but mentally prepare for life to throw you curve balls.
If you are the type of person who needs routine and structure, the best skill you can learn is the ability to be comfortable with the idea that things might change so that you can prepare yourself in advance to be able to run with change. When difficult and stressful circumstances occurs, you will have more drive and energy to not just strive through it, but to thrive through it.
Speak the words you want to hear from others.
"It's not what we say out loud that really determines our lives. It's what we whisper to ourselves that has the most power." - Alan Stein, Jr.
Every morning when you start your day, remind yourself that you are amazing and you have it in you to live an incredible life!! You are the person that you spend the most time with. Speak words of life into your day! All that is required is active intention! You’ve got this!! You were born to Thrive!
